You type the message telling a client your price is going up.
Read it back.
£500.
Blimey. Are they actually going to pay that?
You add another sentence explaining why.
Delete it.
Maybe £450 would be more reasonable.
Yeah yeah… that’s good.
Maybe you should wait until next month.
I’ll send it tomorrow.
And the mad thing is...
they haven’t said a ruddy word 😂
They haven’t told you it’s too expensive.
They haven’t said no.
They haven’t even seen the message.
You’ve had the whole conversation for them.
And then changed what you were going to do because of it.
And maybe you’re right.
Maybe they do say no.
Maybe they get annoyed.
That can happen right?
But how much time did you spend worrying about the answer...
before there was even an answer?
And this isn’t really a post about putting your prices up, by the way mate.
You can be exhausted by things that haven’t even happened.
Conversations you’ve had in your head.
Reactions you’ve prepared yourself for.
Decisions you’ve gone over twenty times.
Problems you’re already trying to solve.
That’s a lot of energy to spend dealing with something before you even know if you’ve got to deal with it.
Maybe they say no.
Fine.
Deal with the no when there’s actually a no to deal with.
Until then...
let them answer for themselves.
